Beyond the Basics: Getting Drop Day Right

The accounts and payment details are the foundation, but most missed pairs come down to smaller details handled the night before. Start with your size. Jordan retros and Nike runners don't always fit the same, and a pair that runs snug in one silhouette can feel roomy in another. If you're unsure, check our sizing notes and settle on one size before the release opens, because deciding mid-checkout costs time.

Know how the drop works

Not every release is first come, first served. Many high-demand Jordans on the SNKRS app use timed draws, where you enter during a window and winners are picked afterward. Smashing the refresh button won't help with a draw, so a calm, accurate entry is all you need. Other retailers run raffles with their own rules, and some require entries days ahead. Read each retailer's instructions early so you don't find out about an entry deadline after it has passed.

Prepare your devices

• Update the Nike and SNKRS apps and your phone's operating system the day before, not the morning of.
• Charge everything and use a stable Wi-Fi connection, with mobile data as a backup.
• Confirm your shipping address, including apartment numbers, is current.
• Turn on app notifications so you don't miss a stock alert or a win confirmation.

Shopping in person

For in-store releases, policies vary widely. Some shops use online raffles, some issue tickets, and a few still allow lines. Check the store's official channels for its approach, bring ID if it's required, and dress for Portland weather if you'll be waiting outside. Protect yourself

Drop days attract scams. Ignore direct messages offering guaranteed pairs, never share login codes, and be careful with resale listings that seem too cheap. If you miss out, keep in mind that many retros restock or come back in later colorways. Keep an eye on the release calendar for your next chance.
